Ethos

I believe humans are born with a tendency toward kindness. Kindness is in our genes. Most prominent among them is the gene for oxytocin, which plays a role in reproduction, breastfeeding, and social behaviour. It is sometimes affectionately called the love hormone, cuddle chemical, or even a molecule of kindness. Oxytocin causes us to love, cuddle, and be kind because it makes us more affectionate. It is one of our oldest genes, dating back 500 million years.

This tells us something, doesn't it? Clearly, the gene is highly important, otherwise, it would have been extinct long ago. It causes mothers to love and care for their children, so that they can grow up and be able to reproduce themselves, thus furthering the human race. Additionally, it encourages us to help each other, to work together for a common goal. This gene truly embodies kindness.

Kindness is genetically 'wired' into us rather than selfishness. It is ingrained in our psyche. It is ancient.
